Students from across Ireland will have the opportunity to run their own festival on their college campus this Autumn.

STAND is currently recruiting third level students to help manage its annual Student Festival (formally known as the 8×8 Festival) in 7 campuses nationwide, from September to November 2019. Festival Coordinators will get to manage every aspect of the festival, from planning and promoting the festival on their campus to finding volunteers and organising a series of events, including talks, film screenings and workshops. This internship will allow students to gain professional skills and meet like-minded people, while raising awareness about climate change – the theme of this year’s exhibition!

“The STAND Student Festival is run by students, for students, to raise awareness about the burning issues shaping the world around us,” explained Joanne Mulligan, Activities Manager at STAND. “For the last six years, we’ve been bringing award-winning photography and film to campuses across Ireland every autumn. This year’s festival will include an art and photography exhibition created by students to highlight the impact of climate change around the world,” she added.

Last year, more than 16,000 people engaged with the festival, with the help of 24 incredible student coordinators. This year, it could be you!

“It was such an achievement to see the event running on my own campus,” said Ruairi, past festival coordinator at Maynooth University.

“It was an amazing experience. I received training over the summer and got to meet other students running the festival all around the country. I got to work with incredible people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise and to learnt about all aspects of event management,” he added.

Applications for coordinator positions are now open, with the deadline of  29th June (NUI Galway), 26th July (UCC, Trinity, UCD, Maynooth, DCU) and 15th August (DIT Aungier Street).
