Did you know plastic straws are only used once and then thrown away? This plastic can take over 200 years to break down and even then it doesn’t completely biodegrade. In America, an estimated 500 million straws are used everyday and then become waste. That’s a lot of plastic that doesn’t break down properly, causing problems for sea life, with straws regularly getting stuck in the nose of turtles.

So what can you do?

  • Ask for no straw with your drink when you go out
  • Buy biodegradable or paper straws
  • Canvass your local restaurant/bar/coffee shop to stock less straws or more environmentally friendly ones
